Dr. Kelley Whitaker

Natural Beekeeper | Apitherapy Advocate | Founder of Castlecrag Honey

Kelley Whitaker is a former marine evolutionary biologist with a specialist background in population genetics. Her path took an unexpected and profound turn when a swarm of bees landed at her neighbour’s entranceway an encounter that catalysed her journey into bee stewardship.

With a deep respect for nature’s intelligence, Kelley is committed to supporting bees in living out their biological and evolutionary lives with as little human interference as possible. Her beekeeping approach is grounded in non-invasive, bee-centric methods that prioritise the health and autonomy of the hive.

Kelley is also a passionate advocate for Apitherapy, the medicinal use of bee products, and co-founded the Australian Apitherapy Association, where she served as both Secretary and Treasurer. Her work in this field reflects her belief in the powerful intersection of science, wellness, and the wisdom of the hive.

Since founding Castlecrag Honey Pty Ltd in 2015, Kelley has worked as a commercial, non-migratory beekeeper, offering honey that is local, ethical, and aligned with the natural rhythms of the bees.
